This book considers both complications resulting from the incomprehensive writing style employed by biblical authors, and those related to the loss of canon-worthy texts. Special consideration is given to the impact of these factors relative to the issue of divorce and remarriage. The Introduction An accurate exegesis-or interpretation-of New Testament texts is complicated by the fact that neither its authors nor their subjects are available to provide commentary about its content; however, the focus of this study is not upon this obvious circumstance, but is rather upon other impediments which, whilst not so blatantly apparent, hinder a precise understanding of issues-such as divorce and remarriage-treated within that compilation of books. These impediments and the consequential difficulties associated therewith are the following: 1. Non-Exhaustive Accounts. It will be established that none of the biographers of Jesus wrote exhaustive accounts of his life. None of their narratives document every episode from his life, nor do those which they did record include all of the particulars pertinent thereto; i.e., they are not comprehensive accounts of his words and deeds. Such being the case, it is not always possible to precisely determine his point of view; and 2. Missing Texts. It will be corroborated that, at one time, there existed additional, canon-worthy manuscripts-both Gospels and other documents-to which first century audiences had access, but which are no longer available for consideration by contemporary audiences. Unfortunately, the loss of these has deprived generations of readers of the complimentary information which most certainly was found therein, material that might serve to elucidate the message of those twenty-seven remaining books. For these reasons, it will be contended and demonstrated that, based solely upon the available scriptural evidence, it is impossible-unfortunately-to adjudicate all issues addressed in the New Testament, including those of a doctrinal nature.
