New "Other": Thoughts on Migration and Migrants

By Tuba Bircan

Migration is far more than the movement of people across borders; it encompasses identity, agency, and the stories that define who we are. In New "Other" - Thoughts on Migration and Migrants, a new generation of migration scholars brings fresh perspectives on the complexities of migrant experiences in Europe. This compelling volume delves into the gendered struggles of highly skilled migrant women, the underexplored realities of irregular migration, and the powerful role media plays in shaping public perceptions of refugees.

Blending critical theory, ethnographic research, and innovative methodologies, the authors interrogate the structures of power, representation, and agency that shape migration policies and societal narratives. Through rich empirical evidence and thoughtful reflections, they explore how identity, aspirations, and belonging are negotiated in an increasingly globalised but divided world.

New "Other" - Thoughts on Migration and Migrants addresses key gaps in migration research, offering valuable insights for scholars, policymakers, and anyone interested in understanding the complex intersections of migration, identity, and governance.
