In LIT BY LIGHTNING journeyman actor Jeff returns to New Orleans to look into questions involving his father's death. In his search, he meets Bryna, a beautiful, talented stage manager, not knowing she is central to the mystery surrounding his father's death. Their developing love faces a challenge when Jeff discovers she is being kept by a prominent judge who is abusive. He also learns the crooked judge is involved in death of his father. His problem is to get justice for his father and save the woman he has come to love. Their relationship burdened by all that happens, Jeff leaves New Orleans.
EXPLORATION'S END sees Jeff return to New Orleans because his mother fears a cousin is involved with drugs. Jeff reluctantly agrees though he has no training or skills in detecting. He avoids Bryna, fearing the trauma of the past will keep their love from growing. He is further discouraged when he sees Bryna caring for a baby who is her image. On his last visit Jeff barely skimmed visiting his old friends but this time the colorful residents of the Irish Channel become necessary to his search because of his cousin's possible involvement. A story more tangled than his first venture is eased by the discovery that the baby Bryna cares for is her niece, her brother's wife having disappeared into he drug scene. The search twists but Jeff finds a resource in friends old and new. This time, he hopes a permanent love with Bryna will come with the resolution of the tangle. But it's New Orleans, where nothing is what it seems to be.
