The novel, New England Cold Supper, lives vividly in the unrefined 60's.Residents of the small New Hampshire town of Queens Corners are quick to criticize the returning rebel, Son of The American Revolution, Obadiah Charles Jacob Miles Standish the Fifteenth. The occasion: the funeral of the abrasive Fourteenth Obadiah, his father. Following the service, a bit of a fiasco in itself, and a lusty, sexual romp with a seductive cousin, Obadiah and his Irish brother-in-law arrange an outstanding wake in true Celtic tradition. Straight and stayed citizenry of this winter corner of New England are loosened up considerably. The story is not restricted to New Hampshire. Obadiah's friend, Manfred Fast Horse, an impractical Native American painter, inadvertently becomes a world famous artist. Cindy, the resilient woman in Obadiah's life, shows up in a blizzard, bringing with her Obie's latest divorce papers and young twin daughters by his 4th marriage. Thelma Mantel, Obadiah's schoolteacher from the years of his graduation into puberty, still has a crush on him.
