New Deal Art in Oklahoma is a reprint of a 1983 study of the various New Deal projects which resulted in the production and acquisition of art in Oklahoma. The art programs were the Public Works of Art Project (PWAP), the Works Projects Administration/Fine Arts Project (WPA/FAP), the Treasury Relief Project (TRAP), and the Treasury Section of Painting and Sculpture (Section). In addition to the four programs directed toward art, this research includes art work produced under a number of other projects which provided products to serve other perceived needs. These programs include the National Youth Administration (NYA), the Civil Works Administration (CWA), non-art projects such as Museum, Parks, Music, Theater and others within the WPA, the Farm Security Administration (FSA), and possibly the better known CCC. This survey includes examples of preciously undocumented art, some of which is housed in several institutions in the state, and provides clues to hundreds, perhaps thousands of works that have been lost or destroyed.
