Never The Spirit Was Born

By Alex Le Val

This intriguing and enigmatic medico-psychological drama explores the strange terrifying nightmares disturbing the mind of Charles Barrington following a major operation. Through deep hypnosis a series of vivid reincarnations and lives slowly emerge spanning several decades. The First World War, a brewery in Manchester in the 1800s and Black Death in Derbyshire each with prevailing infectious diseases. But the two remaining dreams with no historical context remain unfathomable until a change in the hypnotic procedure reveal their extraordinary and uncanny content with characters grappling with overt sexual identity. His increasingly intense relationship with Alun Davies, a Hospital Chaplain, begins to jeopardize Charles' marriage with neither showing any insight into the increasingly disturbing situation. Events reach a dramatic conclusion when an unexploded bomb demolishes a block of flats trapping The Chaplain's Church Warden. Alun decides, against advice, to enter the rubble to administer Holy Communion.
