Boys on bikes save their town - sweet and funny!

Ethelyn M. Parkinson was one of those underappreciated children's writers that Baby Boomers remember fondly. Her "Rupert Piper" books were hilarious. And this book about Digby and his friends is just as funny, as well as heartwarming. Basically, Digby and his pals live in Bellevue, a small town along a river, and in the course of a day they travel through several of the other small towns in their county. All these towns are competing for the privilege of having a new freeway bridge built in their town, which will mean more business for whichever town wins. Everyone agrees that Bellevue lost its chance because they insulted the governor's wife. Yet these Bellevue boys keep running into the governor's wife in the course of their travels, and they ... Enough! I don't want to spoil it for you. Suffice it to say that this is a great "road story" and will make you dream of jumping on your bike and traveling around the country (if you haven't already)! ENJOY!
