This book traces the journey of a professional soldier through his career as he encounters combat and the fog of war multiple times. From his early calling and preparation at the Virginia Military Institute, to subsequent training in Ranger, Airborne and Jumpmaster courses in the U.S. Army, his career slowly evolves into a life journey as he experiences combat, up front and personal, the old-fashioned way - one fearful and sometimes terrifying event at a time.
From the Fulda Gap and the Korean DMZ to Honduras and the Empty Quarter in Iraq, no amount of peacetime training could have prepared him for these future events. He has been attacked in peacetime and wartime, by things seen and things unseen, by a declared enemy, by an undeclared enemy and even attacked by an ally! The chaotic and confusing nature of the Fog of War was the catalyst that woke him to the reality that he was already on a journey long before he realized it was a journey. After wandering in the wilderness for years he is guided back to the Rally Point and discovers his destination without realizing it was the destination. He once was lost but now he sees and provides a menu of Lessons Learned for others in their journeys.
