Major Ed Nelson plans to leave the Army and follow his brother and father into the law. However, he is befriended by Dave and his daughter Pen, who try to recruit him to work, and then replace, their own lawyer whose business is controlled entirely by his crooked clients who are into large-scale money laundering and people trafficking. Suspicious of Dave's motives, Ed calls on his Army friend Gus, whose father is a senior police officer, to look into Dave and his circle of friends. Enter Tess, close friends of Dave and Pen, who warns Ed to be careful, having just lost her husband who used to work with Dave, and having inherited all the money her husband earned with his own illegal financial transactions. She takes to Ed and to Gus and persuades Dave and Pen to cut loose from Rick and 'go straight' before they too either get caught or fall foul of Rick's clients. They plan then to bring to the attention of the SOCA just how serious the UK money laundering business is, but a plan to trap some serious money launderers who hope to profit from a Russian / Turkish arms deal goes seriously wrong .... Ed and Pen become an item, Ed completes his legal training, helped on the way by his clerk, Chris, a street-wise lad, and lawyer Andy who has a rather colourful history. To complicate matters, Ed is rather taken by a WRAF officer; Tess has serious cancer and gets attached to Gus. And some of Rick's clients start getting annoyed ... which is when things start to get very bloody.
