Neil's Real World: For all ages, inspired by 'A Course in Miracles'

For children

One day, Neal discovers a door in the trunk of his favorite tree. Stepping through, he finds a beautiful world he later calls his Real World. The animals there believe he created them. At first, he doesn't understand, but when he imagines a she-bear for a lonely male bear in the ordinary world, she appears when he returns. He realizes every creature there was once a thought in his own mind.
But one night, Neal makes a mistake. After watching a scary movie, he lies in bed afraid. To comfort himself, he thinks of his Real World. But because fear still lingers, he sees two monsters there. When he visits the next day, the monsters seem real... Now, Neal feels both afraid and guilty. In his once-peaceful world, he has imagined the monster of fear and the monster of guilt. And now, he no longer dares to return...

For adults

Neal's Real World reflects A Course in Miracles (ACIM) through a story for children and adults. The book explores three stages: our original oneness, the mistake of believing in separation, and the journey home.

Part 1 - The Real World

Neal loves his sister Nelly and his favorite tree. One day, a door appears in its trunk, leading to a world of peace and wonder. The animals there believe he created them. When he imagines a female bear in the ordinary world, she appears in the Real World, confirming their belief. Neal also meets an old man who gives him profound peace and teaches him: What you create from love is real; what you create from fear is an illusion.

Part 2 - The Mistake

One night, after watching a scary movie, Neal thinks of the Real World while still afraid. He sees monsters there. The next day, they seem real. Overcome with guilt, he believes he has ruined his perfect world and shuts himself off from it-though his longing remains.

Part 3 - The Return

Shame keeps Neal from listening to the old man, but when he can no longer bear the monsters' voices, he finally does. The old man reminds him: Only love is real. Neal must stop believing in the monsters for them to fade. But he cannot do this alone-he needs Nelly. As A Course in Miracles says: No one enters Heaven alone.
