He was the long-time Principal of Bridgewater Normal School in Bridgewater, MA., where he taught mathematics, history, and science. He also served as the President of Bridgewater Teachers' College. His expertise was teaching nature study. He lectured and wrote articles on natural sciences and biology. This small book was written to help teachers gear their teaching of science (via nature study) to the seasons of the year.
