IT IS NOT "BABY TALK" -- THE LANGUAGE IS SOPHISTICATED ENOUGH TO KEEP ADULTS INTERESTED, WHILE PERFECTLY UNDERSTANDABLE TO THE AVERAGE EIGHT OR NINE YEAR OLD STUDENT. THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE INTRIGUING; THE TEXT IS FASCINATING. BROOKS WASN'T GIVEN THE NEWBERY AWARD FOR NOTHING!
