In 1814, Marie walked, stumbled and crawled along the snow-covered ground. She had left her two boys under a makeshift shelter with nothing but a buffalo robe to protect them from the winter weather. Neither the two boys nor Marie had had much to eat in at least six days. Marie had seen smoke in the distance and she thought if she could reach the smoke she and her sons would be safe. But what would happen if this was not a friendly village?...
