The systematic conflicts that occur in sub-Saharan West Africa, despite the existence of organisations that seek to articulate the relations of the region's states internally and externally, are the cornerstone of this perspective on understanding their nature. Starting with the recent conflicts that took place in Mali in January 2013, we sought to identify their causalities from the perspective of the powers that materialise in space and that have an ordering and regulatory function: that of the nation state, that of the lineage and that of the Islamic religion.
