In 2031, artificial intelligence has learned to classify every creature in the ocean. Then it finds one that makes no sense.
Sixteen-year-old Cylia "Cee" Pucker begins her birthday like any other Cape Cod teenager: school, a field trip to the coastline, and a future that is supposed to include getting her driver's license.
Then she sees a pink horn glittering in the Atlantic.
Nobody else notices it.
Waiting beyond the shore is a narwhal unlike anything Cee has ever seen-and exactly the kind of biological contradiction that QUARIUM was built to eliminate.
QUARIUM's autonomous harvesting system has a simple mission: identify what belongs in nature and correct what doesn't. To its artificial intelligence, a whale cannot have a unicorn's horn.
These two entities must remain separated.
When QUARIUM targets the narwhal for capture, Cee keeps her discovery secret. But protecting an impossible animal becomes much harder when the machines come looking for it.
Soon Cee is stealing her father's boat, The Lucky Puck, crossing dangerous waters with her best friends, and heading toward Nomans Land-an island transformed into QUARIUM's completely human-free headquarters, where mechanical avatars work for operators who never have to set foot inside.
Cee has one mission:
Bring the narwhal home before QUARIUM can separate it.
But inside Nomans Land, she discovers that the narwhal isn't QUARIUM's only mistake-and some things were never meant to be divided.
NARWHAL is a cinematic science-fiction adventure about friendship, artificial intelligence, the natural world, and a sixteen-year-old girl willing to cross an ocean for something everyone else failed to see.
