Polar bears are born, play, learn, struggle to survive, and love-just like Nanook, Lana, Ava, and Konia do in this story.We took the protagonist's name from the term used for this mammal by a group of people within the Inuit, who are the oldest inhabitants of the region.There are other bears that live in forests and mountains; but the polar bear inhabits the Arctic Circle-on its ice floes, in its waters, on drifting icebergs, and along its icy coasts.The family in our story lives on Ellesmere Island, which belongs to Canada and is very close to Greenland. They could also live on the islands of northern Europe and the islands of Siberia, but never at the South Pole, where there are no polar bears.
