I use this text for my introductory organic chemistry course. Banks' book, while it is "old" and unglamorous, is both less expensive and a much better reference than Traynham's workbook "Organic Nomenclature." One excellent feature is that both correct and incorrect answers are explained. The text includes sections on natural products, on heterocycles, and on Chemical Abstracts, but does not include reactive intermediates. The only drawback may be that Banks' coverage is too thorough! Some students find it intimidating, but I doubt they would be better-served by Traynham's book, the only alternative. And other students have told me they find it easy to use and useful.
