Neptune and Shark are hired by MI5 to follow an IRA member-Shamus Murphy, in the hopes he will lead them to the head of their organization, Sean O'Leary. Initially they were reluctant to accept, their memories of the case they undertook for MI6 still fresh in their minds. However, once they learn that the IRA is planning a strike against the police, they know they can't refuse. They have too many friends amongst the police to want to see any of them hurt. The chase takes them to New Delhi, India much to their dismay. Knowing their quarry to be a known killer, they take all manner of precautions to ensure he doesn't discover their true purpose there. They hire some locals, a tuk tuk driver named Varun and his four brothers to help with their task. Despite this, Murphy does get suspicious and sets one of his men onto them. He fails and they continue on to Varnasi, keeping Murphy in sight. There, Murphy meets up with Riley, their man in charge of supplying explosives and bomb making. Suddenly their task becomes significantly more dangerous, as Riley is an extremely vicious and intelligent killer that is not accustomed to failure. Do they capture O'Leary and prevent a massive strike against the British police force on Christmas Eve? You'll just have to read the book and find out. Needless to say, Neptune is at his intuitive best.
