Nahum and Jonah are prophetic cousins. Although they lived one hundred years apart, God called them both to prophesy concerning Nineveh. Jonah was called to go to Nineveh, but Nahum was not. Jonah went reluctantly, and Nahum was obedient to the Lord's call. Jonah was angry that the Lord relented and did not bring judgment to Nineveh, Nahum proclaimed God's judgment over the same city obediently. Nahum and Jonah are books of large contrasts dealing with the judgment and mercy of God, His jealousy and anger, and His justice and faithfulness. There are great truths to be understood in the two little books.
