Mysticism And The Doctrine Of Atonement

By Evelyn Underhill

Book Overview

""Mysticism and the Doctrine of Atonement"" is a philosophical and theological exploration of the relationship between mysticism and the Christian doctrine of atonement. Written by Evelyn Underhill, a prominent British author and mystic, the book delves into the nature of mystical experience and its implications for the traditional concept of atonement. Underhill argues that the mystical experience of union with God can provide a deeper understanding of atonement, challenging traditional interpretations and expanding our understanding of the nature of salvation. Drawing on a wide range of mystical and theological sources, including the writings of St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila, Underhill offers a compelling vision of the transformative power of mystical experience and its potential to reshape our understanding of Christian theology. This book is a must-read for anyone interested in the intersection of mysticism and Christian doctrine, and the role of spiritual experience in shaping our understanding of the divine.THIS 28 PAGE ARTICLE WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE BOOK: The Essentials of Mysticism and Other Essays, by Evelyn Underhill.
