Exciting second book in the Viking Quest series.

The day thirteen-year-old Bree O'Toole and was captured by Viking raiders, her life changed forever. Now she is far from her home in the green hills of Ireland, in a strange new country where all she has to look forward to is a life of slavery. Determined to escape that fate, Bree and one of the other captives, a younger girl named Lil, escape the Viking ship and head into the hills of Norway, hoping to make their way to a trading village where they can find safe passage back to Ireland. But the hardships she faces on her escape cause Bree to struggle to hold on to her courage and to her faith that God will protect her. And as her captor, the young Viking leader Mikkel, searches for her, he faces a personal struggle of his own: did he do the right thing by leading that raid? Meanwhile, Bree's older brother, Devin, who was set free before the Vikings left Ireland, is determined to find a way to go after his sister, but he struggles with his feelings of anger and hate toward the Vikings who tore apart his family. This was an excellent continuation of the first book in the Viking Quest series, Raiders from the Sea. The historical details are wonderful, and I loved the unique setting. I'd highly recommend this book to all readers who read the first book, but new readers should start at the beginning of the series, otherwise this book won't make as much sense. I look forward to reading the other three books in this series and seeing what happens to Bree, Devin, and Mikkel next.

wonderful!

this was a WONDERFUL book!I finished it in a day. I reccemend this to boys and girls ages 8-15 This is one of my favorite books and it is awesome!

Fantastic!

Mystery of the Silver Coins is just as fantastic as Raiders from the Sea! The book begins when Bree and another slave named Lil escape from the Viking ship and begin a trek through the unfamiliar Norwegian mountains. When Mikkel, the young leader of the Viking raiders, realizes that his bag of silver coins is missing, as are Bree and Lil, he and his crew men begin to search relentlessly for the girls, convinced that they are the thieves. But as Bree and Lil draw farther away, Mikkel begins to wonder if some of the choices he has made were for the best. He also begins to wonder if Bree's God is really real and if the gods of the Vikings are not. Bree learns that sometimes God has a different plan for your life than you think He does. She also gets a special message that makes her wonder if getting taken by the Vikings was really a mistake, or if there was a special reason. Mystery of the Silver Coins will take you on an exciting adventure. A definite must-read for you and your family!

Outstanding Historical Adventure in Norway

Mystery of the Silver Coins, second book in the Viking Quest Series, is a wonderful book! It's an action-filled historical fiction. Bree O'Toole makes her escape with another slave from a Viking ship and the plot is exciting. This story pulls the reader into every scene and it has realistic characters. Kids nine and up will get not only a fast-paced story, but they will see perseverance and faith in action. Inspiring book--the kind that is worth reading again. The author obviously has done a lot of research, and it is evident that she was in places like Bergen, Norway by reading her descriptions in the book.

suspenseful and mysterious

The book operates well on an adventure level when Bree tries to escape with her friend, and defies Mikkel.Only when they are gone does he miss his bag of coins which he has stolen. There is a lot of conflict between he and his men, and he must learn who to trust to get his gold back and succeed in a man's world.Oddly he comes to trust in Bree, and even in her God. Even Though she is eventually retaken and is a captive slave, she helps him. There are also the intriguing parts about life in Norway, and the fact that her older sister was stolen away years before, with the promise of them being reunited in the third book. Her clever disguise and resourcefulness, and Mikke's growing maturity make for a gripping read!!On the Christian level it is sincere without being preachy. On the historical level it is accurate and very interesting. The details of life in the Viking world are superb. A wonderful read for kids and adults alike.
