"Tornado!" I screamed. "Shit shit SHIT!" The rain had picked up considerably and the roar was getting louder. "Come on!" I grabbed her hand as we made for the office, and held each other close as we huddled in the doorway leading into the bathroom, which I figured was probably the safest spot. We could hear the wind then, and loud thumps hitting the roof.
Janie shivered. "I'm scared," she whispered into my ear, her breath warm. I enveloped her in my arms and legs as we sat there in the doorway.
"It's okay, sweetie. I'm here. Everything's going to be alright."
She looked up at me then, as we heard more thumps hitting the metal roof covering the deck. It sounded like the wind was trying to tear it off. I was glad, then, that I knew the roofer who put it on and knew he was not one to cut corners. "You realize, of course, that we are NAKED!" she blurted out. "If the tornado hits us, this is how we will be found!"
I laughed at that. I hadn't thought about it, but yes, we were naked as hell. "I've always said you play slide guitar and sing as well as Bonnie Raitt. I guess we'll give them something to talk about."
