My Whole World Jumped by Jonathan Brant is used in the Alpha Christian program at my school. It provokes thinking about religious decisions and can create friendly Christian discussion among different types of youth. This book touches on many religious aspects that don't go into to much depth but provoke thinking about different issues. This book is about a boy named Dave, who deals with the death of his twin and describes his method of coping. He pores out his soul to an unknown sender of a CDrom that helped him discover his faith. Dave faces many typical teenage issues. This allows Christian youth to relate to his character easily, in which he likes a girl out of his reach, has stress on the swim team, and is pestered by a bully. Situations in Dave's family are sometimes unrealistic making the book more child like. Things such as his estranged brother saved his life but not his twin's in an accident on the beach, forcing his parents to cut off all contact with Dave's brother. Situations such as this make the book harder to relate to as it is not an everyday occurrence in most teenagers lives, but it adds needed dimension to the book. It is a very light and quick read, that could help a Christian of any age. It's a "feel good" story and has your attention captured from the first page to the last. This book is very predictable but still a happy story. Overall, it was a good book that should be used to provoke religious discussions such as in Alpha.
