Her experiences are not unique to the area!

My family lived in Summerville and knew the Drolet family so we understand the situations found in her novel. However, that plant closing she describes broke the relationships as so many had to leave the beautiful area. But life in the area is not perfect, and Carol describes the best, and the not-so-good situations found in an area that has such physical beauty that it overly encourages people to never leave. That in itself creates problems. We are happy to know that while the real life situations in the novel parallel the family life of the Drolet family, they do not define her family! It was a fantastic opportunity for us to relive some of our early years, and to follow lives through the events that occurred after we left the area. Thanks Carol
