Although this book deals with the stresses that middle children often feel within their families, this is a good book for any kid with siblings who has worried about standing out in the family. Mallory, the main character, is unhappy because her older brother always seems to do everything right and her younger sister seems to get away with everything. She thinks that she doesn't get as much attention as her siblings do because she's the middle child and she messes up on everything. So, she decides to try different things to get more attention. As it happens, her parents understand her feelings better than she thinks they do, and a near disaster convinces Mallory that she might not be such a mess-up after all.
