I loved this book as a kid!

This is one of those classics in my opinion. I read this book over and over when I was about 10 yrs. old. I am now 38. I was thrilled to find it is still available so that I could share it with my 9 yo who loves horses. In this book, Alice's younger sister is constantly pretending to be a horse. It is a source of frequent aggravation to Alice. She must share a bed with her sister who kicks and whinnies like a horse at night. Her sister also prances around the house like a horse with a stocking pinned to her rear as a tail. One day a chunk of the balcony breaks loose and falls on the little sister, injuring her. Alice feels so bad about disliking her sister and is worried that she will not be okay. The little sister does get well. The city orders for all the balconies to be removed. After the workers leave, the family discovers that a saw horse has been left behind. They get it and convert it to a play horse for the little sister and the father buys a used saddle to go on it. The little sister is so proud to have her own horse now that she no longer pretends to be a horse. This all makes Alice very happy of course.
