deep intuition as guide

Deeper levels of intuition can be very dynamic and life-changing. A French woman uproots her secure and established life in France, following something unknown that her heart must find. A powerful little book. There is a level of intuition being listened to here, and at play, both in her life and in her writing -- a level that is strong, unusual and profound. This book has changed my life. Following such intuition brings a new kind of potency to living. Michelle is, as she says, not a great intellectual, but this can be refreshing. It is refreshing. There is something innocent, naive, and direct speaking in her. Like the smile of a young child, this book speaks a different language -- one of innocence, simplicity and open honesty. There can be a different kind of power in something that is pure and untutored. One other aspect of the book: it seems unfinished or incomplete; but that may be the nature of such a journey. Her intuition seemed to be pointing her or leading her to something even higher than what she found toward the end of the book (though what she found was very surprising and quite good). Maybe it developed further, and probably it did; perhaps she followed, or is continuing to follow that depth of intuition, and it is continuing to take her even further.

An inspiring reading experience

I found "My Ride to a New Life" a great reading experience. I read the book over two days; it's a very fast read. Michelle's inspiring story had deep meaning for me. Her courage and brave sense of adventure in undertaking two long solo bike/camping trips far away from her home were inspiring. Her day-to-day account of her experiences on the road made for fascinating reading. Her openness to new people and experiences made this an exceptional memoir. The last portion of Michelle's book was an account of her meeting with her future husband and was a beautiful and romantic love story.I would highly recommend this book to everyone.Like the work of all great writers, I was sorry to see this book end. I'm looking forward to future books by Michelle.

A Personal Journey

I've been a cyclist for the past fourteen years. During that time, I've read many books and articles about the subject. While I've enjoyed these, I come away with a sense that all too often the authors have missed the point of cycling, getting entangled in the technical aspects of the experience.Michelle Sicard seems to have found the essence of cycling in "My Ride to a New Life", and it's not about the gear, or the technical details. Michelle starts her journey from a personal point of view as someone discontent with the never-altered structure of her existence, discovering a whole new life in the process. The story is told about the journey, but unfolds with personal glimpses and insights around each corner. This is the true essence of cycling, the inner journey, the unexpected. In the end the book is more about self-discovery than the journey itself. As every true cyclist knows, the experience will transform you more than you ever expected, as it did Michelle.

A New Life in America

I would love to travel long distances on my bike, but I haven't had the nerve to do it alone as Michelle did. I'm afraid I couldn't fix my bike and would be stranded. But I like to read about the experience of others just to remind myself about the myriad of bad possibilities that could spoil my fun. Weather, poorly paved roads and steep hills are some of the challenges Michelle meets. I am amazed at all the details she remembered to write down. Apparently she entered comments in her diary every night. The book is fascinating and reads quickly. Take that from somebody who hardly reads anything but the newspaper or magazines. I don't want to tell you the ending of this true story, but it's enough to make a single woman get out on her bike and try a ride alone.

My Ride to a New Life

"My Ride to a New Life" is an account of a French lady of age 29 who wanted to travel and had a deep passion to see Alaska and America. She decides to ride her bike with 100 lbs of equipment with little to no experience. She takes on this trip by tent camping due to minimal funds on her own. The book illustrates quite well how she manages her ride on her bike named "Sam" and provides an unusual perspective of a cyclist which is unique from the typical tourist. Her trip in Alaska is not completed due to being sick and having to return back to France. After a few weeks her determination to continue brings her to Colorado where she rides through New Mexico, Arizona, and Southern California where she meets her future husband. I would view this book of being an informative travel book as well as a genetle romanctic love story. It is well written and one can feel the day to day challenges, joy, and being in love. A great book to kick back and read
