Having previously published books that related to experiences of living overseas in Italy and Chile, I was encouraged to continue writing, for the intimate pleasure of doing so. It was my non-fiction, third book, Bedside Stories, that elevated my experiences as a writer with its selection in the 2018 Tamar Valley Writers' Festival. This exposure to established authors led to several of them becoming supportive of my future writing endeavours. The value of this support has been immeasurable to me. With this stimulus I created a fourth book of non-fiction that was published in May 2022. Heard, Helped, Healed. As my writing enthusiasm became unbridled, I felt the need to try another genre, following participation in several creative writing courses I have journeyed into the domain of short storytelling. This book was inspired by great authors, in particular Elena Ferrante. James Le Carr , and Fredrick Forsyth. I have been surprised how freely words can flow out of a writer's pen, in this case mine, as one begins to write with the freedom of thought. Le Carr stated that the whole point of writing is to engage readers with an entertaining story that feels as if it is integrated into their real world. He wrote, novelists like spies. They live with fiction. Their stories are directed towards engaging readers by developing fictional identities who can deceive their enemies. I hope I have achieved this for the reader.
