Abraham Lincoln fell deeply in love with Mary Todd, and as he was quoted as saying many times -- he never fell out. She was of a wealthy family and was scorned by all of her wealthy sisters for... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Written in the first person, this book offers a unique view of the life of Mary Todd Lincoln. Her interest in politics and specifically her anti-slavery views drew her to young Abraham Lincoln. Misunderstood by both the North and the South, she had a lot of bad press throughout her life. Her life was scored by tragedy with the deaths of all but one son as well as her husband. One can't help but think that her own illness problems as well as those of her family would have been quite different with current medical knowledge. Political and history buffs will find interesting material in this book as there were important changes going on in the United States at that time in the political parties. The civil war references bring out the many problems that the North had in finding strong military leadership in the earlier years of the civil war. I learned a lot about the era of Abraham Lincoln's family from this book and highly recommend it.
Great Historical Novel

I have read the historic novel "My Name Was Mary" by Gayle Rogers & find it to be most interesting, historically accurate in the context of an historic novel, and an easy to read. Ms Rogers has gathered information about the personal life of Abraham Lincoln and his family, & has tied them into Civil War activities in an insightful way through the eye's of President Lincoln wife Mary Todd Lincoln. Ms Rogers has used both factual & fanciful information and imagination in a perfectly delicate mix to place together a novel with an historical emphasis that is hard to put down; but that has natural chapter breaks which allow the reader to feel comfortable if he feels the need to fall asleep in peace at the end of each. I fully recommend reading this book for an insight into the life of our country and its president during this very trying time in our country's history
My favorite historical novel.
