Thank you Mr. Chaney for a great book. Any basketball fan who wants to understand the history of the modern game should read this. Coach Ryan and his early 50's Puxico Indians developed a style of basketball that changed the game. It is a fast read and a fascinating read. Can you imagine a small town school like Class B and nowadays Class 1 producing FIVE Division 1 players!? Unheard of.

Milan, Indiana would not want to play Puxico. I enjoyed this book because I love history and sports history. Valley Springs, Arkansas where I attended high school won the Class B state tournament 3 years in a row, 1950,1951, & 1952. In 1952 Valley Springs was 38-0 in Arkansas and 1-3 vs Missouri teams losing to Wheaton and Branson who made the final 4 in the 1952 Missouri state tournament. This book should be purchased by anyone who played small town basketall in the 1950's.
Every teacher and coach should read this book

The first half of the book is an interesting look at how small towns became small towns in the late 18 early 1900's. The last half shows how lives and attitudes have changed since the 1950's. The respect that kids had shown their elders is somewhat uplifting and makes the reader wish it were still that way.
