A story of the determination and faith of a Mohawk Indian girl
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 15 years ago
"My Mother's Spirit" is the story of Dolores Stanfield who, by her own determination and faith that her mother was watching over her, persevered and survived through the most trying of times. Orphaned at the age of 3 by her Mother's death and her father's imprisonment, she was left in the care of her "Tota" (Grandmother in her Mohawk language). Two survivors, they would not be defeated by hunger or the bitter winters on the St. Regis Indian Reservation in Upstate New York. This autobiography is inspiring. It sings with the triumph of one young girl's indomitable spirit, as she grows from childhood to young adult. Her matter-of-fact faith and optimism in the face of difficulty shines brightly through on every page. Highly recommended.
