Well worth sharing with children

Clearly this book is appreciated by adults but as a school librarian, I can see several applications for using this beautiful book with children. Firstly, of course, it will have huge appeal to children who love dogs, of which there is a sizable number. Secondly, it is a wonderful celebration of life, from birth to death and could be used by an adult to guide a child through an understanding of the life cycle or as a comforting tool for a bereaved child. Lastly, I can see it being a terrific template for a student photography project, giving them ideas for how they can move beyond standard snaps of their pets to show something essential or worth honoring about their animal.

if you ever lost a dog you loved

this is a beautiful book about how a tough looking Vermont giveaway dog with a soft heart came into the life of a New York professional photographer and taught her what she thought she already knew about love and trust and loyalty and commitment and how to slow down and smell the roses - where others might have euthanized the dog she leaves her city for a country life to save the dog and in the process has a glorious unexpected spiritual renewal and reawakening - all the big themes are here - life, death, joy, sickness, love, loss, memory - told with simple powerful prose and exquisite photographs - goes way beyond the sentimentality of most dog stories to the nucleus of pure love between animal and human which in its power and simplicity unimpeded by language transcends anything possible between people on this planet -

a small book with a BIG heart

After my first reading, as an animal lover, I was moved by the strong connection and devotion the author had for her dog,I appreciated the quality of the photography, but it was after my 2nd, 3rd,and even 4th read that I realized what an accomplishment this book really is.To be able to convey so much feeling with the right few words and then include exquisitely placed visual images ,as an artist, I then realized the delicate ying yang balance it took to create. Everytime I open the book I see a detail in a photo I hadn't seen before and I feel a new emotion. I look forward to reading it again and again.

Lucky US, Lucky Dog

Mellon Tytell's My Lucky Dog is a thrill of a book that all dog-lovers, art- lovers, life-lovers will cherish, as she cherished the last year of her dog, Hunter's, life. In this small, elegant book, Mellon's testimonial to Hunter is beautifully realized; in her wonderfully well-paced and excellent photographs we go inside Hunter's reality, see what he sees, feel what he feels; his big heart in Tytell's hands expands our own.

A Must Have For Any Pet Owner

I normally don't do this, but I absolutely loved this book! As a dog lover that lost their beloved pet three months ago, I still find myself grieving over my dog, and after I saw the title "My Lucky Dog", I knew that this book was for me. The photographs in this book are so beautiful, and they really show the complex emotions that go along with falling in love with a dog. After I found out that the author was primarily a photographer, I really was amazed! Because the text that goes with the pictures is so perfect, and it really shows the reader how important this dog was, and echoes my feelings of how I felt when my own dog passed away. From this book, I feel able to move on, because aren't all the feelings of loss, just a celebration of life? That's what this book is about: the celebration of a splendid life surrounded by loving owners, until it came time for the dog to move on, and in the loss of a cherished dog, the owner in mourning, realizes just how profoundly they were affected by the pet they loved for so long. This book is a must have, as the title of this review suggests, for any pet owner, and I'm sure it will bring joy to your heart, as it has brought joy and acceptance to mine.
