Author Arlene Sauder Horst captured her dad's life story, first on tape and then on paper. Roy Emmanuel Sauder's story begins in the early 1900's in Northwest Ohio. Born into a Mennonite farm family of three boys, his story reflects his love of family, the farm, and the church. Having only completed an eighth-grade education, throughout his life he often felt unprepared and inadequate for what he was called to do in life. His family's involvement at church, Sunday school, church conferences, Bible schools and revival meetings, began shaping his life and provided convictions that gave him a sense of direction and purpose. Beginning as a teenager and throughout his life, he was called to participate in church leadership, often as the youngest in a particular position. As an ordained minister, he was a progressive thinker and open to and involved with changes that occurred within the Mennonite Church community. His experiences as farmer, husband, and father of ten children also provide many treasured memories and stories.
