His life unfolds in a dramatic way as he learns to live in a white world, worships weekly in a devout church, gets thrown into jail for protesting the leadership of the country. The trip from Zimbabwe, which includes working on a ship, spending time in a refugee camp and finally getting to the US, makes a compelling story. The US aspect of the story names the generous people who have supported, guided and cared for Joel as he has received citizenship in his new country and seeks to give service to others.
