After Larry Casola transfers from the NYPD to the FDNY, his life is filled with danger and excitement fighting fires, fulfillment in leading and helping others, inspiration from serving with great men, and intrigue working in a firehouse across the street from the Russian Embassy. His story takes us from the inner workings of many types of fires, to life in the firehouse. Larry speaks about the changes in firefighting equipment and tactics through the years and the lingo of ordinary firefighters. As a Lieutenant he takes you from Brooklyn, to Manhattan to the Bronx, from 1975 to 1981, a time when the Bronx was burning. His last firehouse is across the street from the Russian Embassy on East 67th Street, Manhattan. Certain people in his firehouse refuse to acknowledge the fireman when they cross paths. A whole chapter is dedicated to the Russians and these idiosyncrasies. In this Memoir, he discusses several very close calls at ordinary fires and one very dangerous one, escaping death from a collapse at the end of his career. He retired at age 41 in 1982 . Larry moved to Florida with his wife Elaine and three kids. He started a business creating stained glass windows for churches and homes throughout the USA. It is still in existence today.
