Fantastical Realism.
MY KINGDOM serves as a subversion of the princess/knight-in-shining-armor trope that incorporates both a minimalistic, Brechtian style and interchanging genres.
A five-year-old girl is narrating a story. The abstract fairytale consists of a royal family attempting to avoid the clutches of an evil warlock with the assistance of an anthropomorphic teddy bear. It becomes progressively clear that the story she is telling is true, or at least a fantastical version of the truth. The narrative often shifts between "reality" and "fantasy" as the little girl tries to make sense of the strange world around her.
