Carrie loves her life. She loves being homeschooled with her best friend and cousin, Alice. She loves church, animals, pancakes, laughing with her friends, and spending time with her mom.
But some parts of Carrie's life are harder.
Food allergies mean bringing her own meals to birthday parties. Medicine is part of her everyday routine. And because Carrie gets hurt more easily than other kids, even playing sometimes comes with extra rules.
After one frustrating day leaves Carrie wishing she could just be "normal," she begins to look at the people around her differently.
At church, Carrie discovers that every child has a story. One friend uses a wheelchair. Another wears hearing aids. One has a birthmark that attracts unwanted questions. Another is adopted and wonders about the family she never knew. Even Alice has questions about the father who has never been part of her life.
As Carrie listens to her friends, she begins to discover something important: loving your life doesn't mean loving every difficult part of it.
My Kind of Life is a heartfelt story about friendship, differences, family, big feelings, and learning that there may not be just one kind of "normal."
