Book Overview

After an attempt on her wealthy grandmother's life at a family reunion, an Indian American teen hunts for the culprit in this "brisk, twisty, and engrossing" (Kirkus Reviews) murder-comedy perfect for fans of Knives Out and Never Have I Ever.

There are three things Jayshree Devi can count on happening at her annual family reunion: 1) her cousins will forget she exists, 2) her aunts will try to set her up, and 3) her uncles will get into a fight. What she doesn't expect? An accident that lands her grandmother in a coma, throwing the family--and their matriarch's sizeable fortune--into chaos.

When Jay discovers Grand Mom's "accident" might not have been so accidental after all, she'll have to dig through decades of secrets to find the truth. With the help of her (annoyingly perky) cousins and one of their (annoyingly hot) friends, Jay finds herself knee-deep in a mystery that's even more tangled than her family tree.

But the closer Jay gets to answers, the closer she gets to finding her place amongst the relatives who once felt so distant. With Grand Mom's life and fortune hanging in the balance, can Jay save her family and maybe hook up with a hottie while she's at it?

Good story, good mystery, good book

Grandmom just got into an accident that landed her in a coma. The whole family and even the fate of Grandmom's will are in chaos. Jayshree doesn't seem to think it was an accident at all. Now it's up to her to figure out what's happening... And hopefully, she won't get distracted with her cousin's hot friend. Not gonna lie, it's quite refreshing to read a YA mystery that's not all dark and murdery. I mean, this is a bit too, But I love the themes of family and their support. Which I thought was the magic of this book. I loved the craziness and the supportive-ness of the cousins, the worrisome aunts and uncles, and even the crazy but wise grandmother. It was honestly such a fun ride having a whole extended family. However, it is also it's very slight downfall. Because, I kid you not, I'm still a bit confused of who's who in the family. The mystery aspect definitely has the vibe of the whodunit classic story. And it was fun to see Jayshree's perspective as she figures it out. But the thing about this book is you come in for the mystery, but you stay for the quirky family. There are a few small subplots in this story that I like. And unfortunately, the romance is not it. It could honestly do without it. Overall, good story, good mystery, and good book. * I received an eARC of this book
