This is My Kentucky Heritage, depicting what it was like growing up in my beautiful state of Kentucky. I grew up in Bell County, Kentucky during the 40"s, 50's and 60's until I married and moved away in 1965. Farming, coal mining and the lumber business was the way my family made their living. Living on a 200 acre farm, with my grandparents and my mother is different than life is today. My book takes you back to these times and lets you know what life was like back then. My Kentucky Heritage shows you the kind of people that made up our community, their lifestyle and their daily life. It shows how they provided for their families, detailing how they ran their farms, the crops they planted, how they harvested them, and the kind of work required to meet all their needs. My book takes you to the coal mines, and how this industry came into being in the area, and what life was like for a coal miner. It details how the Unions came into existence, protecting the welfare of the miners. It describes the lumber industry, where many of our relatives made their living. My book tells you how Bell County was formed, and became one of only two main routes, as all the early pioneers and settlers had to go through the Cumberland Gap, to search for their fortunes in the new world. My ancestors were some of the first people to settle in this part of the United States and they were instrumental in forming the new frontier and making it what it is today. Their life stories are depicted in this book, and everyone will find it well worth reading, as it will tell you what life was like, living in this new land.
