This book is part of a collection of poems that I have written through the years. Many of my poems are about nature and people in my life, or people who have shaped our state and nation. I have been amazed and inspired by well-known American heroes and unknown American heroes. Every person you meet has a story, and it is an honor to share some of their stories. Poetry became part of my life in the fifth grade, after memorizing, In Flanders Fields, by Lt. Col. John McCrae. The poem was written after Lt. Col. McCrae presided over a funeral for a fellow soldier. It is a beautiful tribute to his fallen brothers that resonates with the hope that they will never be forgotten and that their torch will be carried on forever. His poem stirred something inside and made me realize words could have a profound impact on the way we remember and celebrate life. Simple words put in the right order can tell a story with meaning and purpose, enough to make you laugh or give a tug at your heart.
