A Haunting Portrait of Toes Come AliveIn February of 2012, my husband's toes spoke to me for the first time. If anyone had told me previous to this that they had heard a body part speak aloud, whether someone else's or their own, I would have considered them insane, and quickly disengaged from any further contact. So you can imagine my state of flabbergast the moment I saw tiny faces emerge on my husband's toes and start jabbering away. What made the entire experience even more difficult to sustain was the fact that my husband could not hear them. Thus, I had to hold all conversations with the toes only when he slept. It was tremendously stressful to participate in a mind-bending reality that everyone denied was taking place. But I survived intact, and am now sharing these historic dialogues with the world. Also included is a chapter from my true life novel Nicky Chase: Man in a Fish Oil Pill, which tells the story of my finding a tiny, overweight man in a fish oil tablet and the adventures that follow. The essay "To Wee or Not to Wee", a meditation on the human condition from my book Slouching Towards My Weltanschauung, is also included.
