Thophile is a Rwandan boy who fetches water every day for his family, loves soccer and studies hard in school. The description of his daily life was inspired by interviews with Rwandan children, some who live near the genocide memorials. The vivid watercolors which were painted in Rwanda illustrate life in this tiny east African country of a thousand hills. Great for teaching ethnicity and diversity to young children. At the end of the book there are some activities to interact with the story including a crossword puzzle, a map to color, and a recipe for a typical Rwandan dish.
