Many enlightened citizens see our public lands, regardless of state or federal, mission, or agency as national treasures worthy of our love and respect. The public land closest to my heart is the National Wildlife Refuge System, 95 million acres encompassed within 556 national wildlife refuges, all dedicated to the well-being of those furry, feathered, and scaly creatures with which we share planet earth. The international recognized symbol of the National Wildlife Refuge System is a blue goose inflight, actually an off-color stylized Canada goose from the talented pen of Ding Darling, an early environmentalist and editorial cartoonist. It was my great pleasure to have served on seven national wildlife refuges over the course of a thirty-five year career, a career that produced events and adventures the average citizen would find difficult to believe. My Heart Goes Where The Blue Goose Goes is the sequel to The Blue Goose and Me and continues the events and adventures on my last three national wildlife refuges, Delta at the mouth of the Mississippi River, Gulf Islands forty miles off the coast of Louisiana and Mississippi, and St. Marks in the Big Bend of Florida. Come, relive with me and enjoy some of these wildlife habitat adventures.
