Open granny's purse and find a treasure trove of momentos and magic. Peek inside her notebook, try on her sunglasses, play with her keys, tie a bow, wear her scarf and read her letter. Piece by piece the reader can build up a picture of an adventurous and indepenent grandmother.
I am autistic, and I first read this book as a child. Many other books lost my interest after two or three reads (I know the story, what else is there?) but I came back to this one all the time because there's so much to fiddle with, it's really engaging. There's a shoelace attached that I kept as a "treasure" long after the book was handed down to the next kid. I would recommend this for any child, but especially autistic ones.
