Luis A. Sobrevilla Alc zar. (Huancayo, Per , April 1934) MD by San Marcos University and Doctoral Degree in Medicine by Cayetano Heredia University. Made his post-graduate studies In the Hospitals of Boston and Harvard Universities and at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York from 1959 to 1964 and then returned to work in Per . In Lima, he worked as a Researcher at the High-Altitude Research Institute, as Professor of Medicine and as Director of the Institute of Population Studies, at Cayetano Heredia University. He also worked as a private practitioner at the Miraflores Medical Institute. From 1973 to 1980, he worked for the Population Council as Medical Advisor to the Population and Family Planning programs of Colombia and M xico. In 1980, he was appointed General Director of the Maternal and Child Health and Population Department of the Ministry of Health of Per , where he organized and directed the first governmental family planning program of the country. In 1983, he was appointed Technical Director of the National Population Council of Per . He has worked in private practice and as a specialist in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology in Lima, Bogot and Miami.
