The first interactive board book that introduces children--and their parents--to signing using real ASL signs With years of experience teaching parents and babies across the country to sign, Michelle Anthony and Reyna Lindert bring their expertise to these interactive board books. Each page focuses on one word, showing a photo of an adult to model the sign. Beside it is a photo of a baby making the sign to ease parents' identification of the sign as young hands might make it. Facing these photographs is an illustration of the object, as well as a touch-and-feel
I LOVE the Signing Smart program and have been really happy with this book and their other board book, "What Do You See?". My toddler loves them too and these two books have really helped to facilitate him learning more signs very quickly. These two books are now my favorite baby shower gift! They are simple, fun, easy to understand (the signs, I mean) and interactive. Great product!
Love, love, love this book!

Has my 8 month old interested
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 16 years ago
This book is an early hit with my 8 month old. He is particularly interested in the photographs demonstrating the signs and the scratchy-feely items. The book includes 6 double pages illustrating 12 signs: Daddy, phone, ball, more, Mommy, drink, eat, cracker, all-done, milk, bed & light. Each double page includes a sentence containing two words to sign, an simple and colourful illustration of the sentence (including a scratchy-feely item drawing attention to one of the signs), photographs of a child signing and photographs of an adult signing. It does contain a lot of visual information, but hopefully still manages to communicate the concept clearly to my son (who is not yet signing). The Signing Smart Strategies, listed at the back, recommend to initially limit the child's exposure to between 6 - 12 signs. There are 12 in the book, so that is perfect if these are the set most relevant to your child. If, like me, you have selected a few different ones more relevant to your interactions, you can obviously skip pages or not sign those which you don't wish to introduce yet. Overall, it provides for enjoyable reading time and will hopefully prove to be a valuable teaching tool.

These books are an excellent way to teach basic sign language to you and your young child! The illustrations are great and the book is child friendly and easy to read ! A must in all preschools and daycare centers for young children I think!
