Traveling from California to South Florida by train with her mother, young Toni tried to fantasize about her Florida summer vacation but came up with nothing until she met a silly brown and white duck she named Ducky who was sitting on eight eggs under a hibiscus bush close to her Aunt's town-home. She was very excited when the ducklings were hatched, but then one day, Ducky came home with two of her ducklings missing. Toni was very upset with Ducky. She could not believe Ducky could be so careless, so from that day until she went back to California, she followed Ducky to the lake and back with the chicks to make sure that nothing would happen to the remaining ducklings. She made duck crossing signs so that the people in the neighborhood would be mindful of the ducks and look out for them and their babies.
