My Dad Is a Chef My dad is a chef He cooks, he works, he works a long, long time.Why does my dad work so much?Hmmmm... I like it when my dad makes me ice cream.It makes me smile and my tummy happy.But I wish I made the ice cream with my Dad the Chef.Maybe I could help?Emma & Dad's Vanilla Ice CreamA creamy ice cream made for little chefs and their dads.You'll need: * 2 cups heavy cream* 1 cup whole milk* 3/4 cup sugar* 1 tablespoon vanilla* Pinch of saltDad does: Mix the cream, milk, sugar, vanilla and salt until the sugar dissolves.Emma does: Helps measure, pours everything into the bowl, and gives it a BIG stir.Chill, then churn in an ice-cream machine according to its instructions.The most important step: Eat it together.⸻He cooks, he works, he works a long time.Why does he work so much?Hmmmm... COOKIES Especially chocolate chip cookies - my fave My dad brings them home for me.Yummmm But I wish I made the cookies with my Dad the Chef.Emma & Dad's Chocolate Chip CookiesYou'll need: * 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened* 1/2 cup brown sugar* 1/4 cup white sugar* 1 egg* 1 teaspoon vanilla* 11/4 cups all-purpose flour* 1/2 teaspoon baking soda* 1/2 teaspoon salt* 1 cup chocolate chipsEmma does: Measures the chocolate chips.And probably eats a few.Dad does: Creams the butter and sugars together, then mixes in the egg and vanilla.Add the flour, baking soda and salt. Fold in the chocolate chips.Scoop onto a baking sheet.Dad does the hot part: Bake at 350 F for about 9-11 minutes.Emma does the difficult part: Wait for them to cool.⸻But why does my dad work so much?He cooks.He works.He works a loooooong time.Then one day...CANDY Big, silly, colorful candy made by Dad the Chef.Dad's Wacky Chocolate BarkYou'll need: * 2 cups chocolate* Mini marshmallows* Sprinkles* Crushed cookies* Freeze-dried strawberries* Whatever other silly things you can find Dad does: Melts the chocolate.Emma does: EVERYTHING ELSE Sprinkle, scatter and decorate the chocolate until Dad says: "Emma That's enough "Then add a little more.Let it set until firm and break it into big, wacky pieces.⸻My Dad the Chef makes delicious food.Fancy food.Marvelous food.And sometimes...really wacky food.But after all the ice cream...and all the cookies...and all the candy...I finally figured something out.My favorite thing Dad makes isn't something I can eat.It's time for us.Because at the end of the day, I know my Dad the Chef loves me.And I want him to know...I love him too.Even if I still wish he didn't work so much.So maybe tomorrow...Dad can leave the kitchen a little earlier.And we can make something together.The End.
