One of Rolling Stone Magazine's 25 Greatest Rock Memoirs of All TimeFor the first time, rock music icon Gregg Allman, one of the founding members of The Allman Brothers Band, tells the full story of... This description may be from another edition of this product.
While there's little doubt that he was a good musician at the intersection of blues, r&b and soul, Allman was a self-absorbed momma's boy who never got past his brother's death and never met a powder he wouldn't snort or a bottle of vodka he wouldn't drain for breakfast. His descriptions of his treatment of the many women who passed beneath him, and the kids who resulted, are truly revolting. And boy, did he hate Dicky Betts for keeping the Allman Brothers on the road when he himself was too effed up to care. Hubris, machismo and zero introspection in equal measure, it's a testament to good old boys and Southern rock.

I always have loved Gregg Allman's music and followed his career somewhat. Reading the book had me feel like I knew him and understood him. Great Read.
