A work of regional Americana destined to become a classic - a unique authentic portrayal of the canyonlands of Utah and the nearby states, still relatively untouched by man, rich with plants and... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is Ken's loving portrait of the land he grew up in. Short on definitive locations, long on descriptions of people, places and events, that should incite enough interest to have you making your own plans for voyages of discovery. You'll wish you were walking with him - finding intact pots, dwellings, and fingerprints of Hisatsinom (Ancestral Puebloan) peoples. Ken crosses paths with key figures from the desert southwest - Norm Nevills, Art Chaffin and others. If you love the desert southwest, you'll resonate with every loving word Ken writes.
The last of the mountain men

Kent Frost was one of the first explorers to thoroughly explore the Canyonlands area, mostly on foot by himself on overnight treks. Later he used his skills to give people great experiences on his jeep trips, using his knowledge of the area, even using old style cookware and his homemade cooking utensils on the campfires. The book is a journal of one man's way to figure out how to get things done by himself and in conjunction with other people. An interesting insight on what people in the west had to do in order to survive. Like the title of this review points out, he was "The last of the Mountain Men."
